Construction Schedule
Week 1 (11.12.15) – On the first week, i created draft layouts for my products and although I decided not to really look at these that often, it was a learning curve on how to layout my magazine and it gave me various ideas and tips.
Week 2 & 3 – (18.12.15/25.12.15) – On these two weeks, I collected photos for the products, going to the studio and a couple of occasions and making sure they were to my standard. I then had to choose the best photos which would best suit the magazine fit and layout purposes.
Week 4 & 5 (02.01.16/09.01.16) – On Week 5, I made my cover photo for my magazine. I enjoyed this piece of work my favourite because it was also the most important, making sure you included features that would attract your audience and make them want to buy it, and overall I was very happy
with my cover photo.
Week 6 & 7 (16.01.16/ 23.01.16) – On these two weeks, I decided to build my contents page. I found this was a hard piece to create because it was key you filled up the whole page with content and made up stories. It was important also to include little features such as page numbers to the stories and sub heading etc.
Week 8 & 9 (30.01.16/05.02.16) - On these two weeks, I paid attention on constructing my feature article. I left this area of my product last because I felt it was the most difficult area of the products and would take the most care and consideration. Not saying that I rushed my other two products, because I didn’t, I just had to think more about my feature article and make sure it was accurate and presentable.
Week 10 (12.02.16) – On the 10th week, I had finished making necessary changes to my products and I published them to my blog, 100% happy with them. Although in this last week, I didn’t have loads of changes I wanted to make, there were minor things I needed to change to my products and I feel confident and happy about my products now.
Location/Props/Costumes
The location for the photos that I took for my final products was in a studio, using professional soft box lighting, a DSLR camera and a green screen. I couldn't really think of a very good location outside of the studio as to where I could've taken some photos, but I am happy with my decision in using the studio. This is because you can allow yourself high quality, crisp images that aren't going to let you down. The green screen allowed me to choose a specific background for my photo if need be, to suit the colour scheme for my magazine. I didn't use any props during the photo shoot because I didn't feel it was necessary, and I didn't think it would improve the pictures in any way. The costume of the model was a hoodie, tracksuit bottoms and a snap back. These clothes enhance the Rap feel of the magazine and suits the genre and the target audience can relate to this dress code. I got the model to also where a watch to show that Rapers tend to where bling.

Institutions
Due to the style and target audience of the magazine I have produced, I think that Bauer would be a very sensible publisher to join with. Although this publisher already has many music magazines including the big names of Q and Kerrang, I feel that choosing this publishers would be sensible as they have no stand out Rap based magazine (with Q and Kerrang both being Rock genre). Because Bauer is such a well-known, successful publishers, and there are many Rap fans in America, I think that although the demographic isn’t huge, the demographic that there is would all be intrigued by the magazine. Bauer are also very likely to get “States of Play” sold in very popular American distributors such as Walmart. Bauer would also be able to provide very high-profile advertising contracts with the magazine, Bauer have lots of experience in this department and would be able to get the best revenue out of the companies who want to be featured in the magazine.
States of Play is developed to cater to a very wide and popular target audience; Bauer has the skill to stretch and reach the audience that my magazine has the ability to appeal to. At the moment, they already publish very successful music-genre magazines and have formed a large trust gain with the readers for a good quality magazine. If I were to go and join a very minor magazine publisher, although I would have more control of the magazine, I would get nowhere near as much income from sales. I think the idea of an experience publisher being in control of my magazine is a good idea as they’d know what’s best for the magazine and how to sell the most copies. The Bauer connection would give the magazine maximum exposure to the audience, this is critical because many titles fail within their first 3 years. Going with a small publisher simply wouldn’t fulfil the potential of the magazine.
Finally, with the quick expansion of online media, social media and technologies, my magazine would be able to reach a much younger demographic. This could be achieved by a website, YouTube channel, applications, Twitter/Facebook/Instagram accounts etc. This online presence will help improve the name of the magazine and make it a wanted magazine for Rappers/Rap fans all over the world.
